COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG VIRGINIA METALCRAFTERS BRUSH-EVERARD BRASS CANDLESTICKS, Style 13-16. These graceful brass candlesticks are called the "BRUSH-EVERARD CANDLESTICKS" , Style 13-16, & were skillfully crafted by the Virginia Metalcrafters of Waynesboro, Virginia.

They were reproduced from an early 17th century "trumpet" style candlestick embellished with bold sausage turning & illustrates a purely English design. Prior to this, English brass candlesticks were copied from French & low country designs. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to find & no longer produced, these candlesticks are made from cast brass, polished by hand, & lacquered.

They are hallmarked on the bottom with the VM Betty Lamp Hallmark, the Colonial Williamsburg Restoration seal, & the CW16-13 design stamp. HISTORIC NOTE: Virginia Metalcrafters was founded in 1890 as the W. Loth Stove Company located in Waynesboro, Virginia, which in on the western slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Company originally made cast iron stoves & ultimately created the Hotpoint range. In the late 1940's/early 1950's, the Company employed some of the great artists of the day to create masterpieces in brass.

In 1950, the Virginia Metalcrafters began their line of Colonial Williamsburg brass & cast iron reproductions. Virginia Metalcrafters used the same hand casting and finishing methods as those used in the original Colonial pieces. Eventually, Virginia Metalcrafters made licensed products for Colonial Williamsburg, Historic Charleston, Mount Vernon, The Smithsonian, Winterthur, Historic Newport, Old Sturbridge Village, & the National Trust. Facing mounting challenges to its solvency, Virginia Metalcrafters closed its doors forever in 2002, ending an incredible era of unique craftsmanship. Vintage Virginia Metalcrafters pieces are quite collectible & are accelerating in value.
