Pair Antique English Brass Candlesticks Victorian Candle Holders Old Beehive
Pair Antique English Brass Candlesticks Victorian Candle Holders Old Beehive. This is a true classic.

It is a pair of antique English brass candle holders. This is true classic English elegance at its best. This pair measures 11 3/4 inches tall. This pair is not perfect. One candlestick has a wobble to it as its base is not perfectly square, and the other candlestick is lose at its bottom seam.

The pushups are frozen in place and one of them has some metal nuts attached to it as part of a repair to tighten the candlestick. Even thought they are not perfect they are still very nice. I also see what looks like a Star of David on the inside of the candlestick. I have taken pictures so that you can see it for yourself.

There is also some writing that I can't make out and that appears to be in another language. These were part of the inventory of a New Oleans area antiques store that recently closed. I've chosen to not polish these and leave them with their patina as I found them. I prefer the antique patina and chose to leave them as is. It would be safe to say that none of them are in perfect condition.

However, these are classic antiques and you should expect them to have signs of wear and age. That is part of their charm. These appear to be good antique quality construction.

I know that some of the pairs I purchsed were from the early 1800s and even before, but I don't know the exact age of this pair. I've tried to take a number of pictures so that you can judge for yourself their age and value. I own an antiques business and I acquire my items in a number of ways. I also go to a lot of antique auctions and estate auctions.

My items come from a variety of sources and I strive to provide good quality items with lasting value. For those of you who dont know, Mardi Gras doubloons are brightly colored aluminum coins about the size of a silver dollar.

They are 1 1/2 inches in diameter. They were thrown by Krewe members from Mardi Gras floats. Doubloons usually have the symbol of the Krewe on the front along with the date the Krewe was organized, the back side usually has the theme for that years parade as well as the date. Each Krewe may have a number of different doubloons for each years parade. Usually the silver ones are the most common, followed by a range of colors from red to gold. Some Krewes mint real bronze, silver and even gold doubloons, however these are very rare and seldom put up for sale. Many Mardi Gras doubloons are fairly rare outside of New Orleans, and many are rare even in the city. They make great inexpensive yet unique collectibles or gifts.
