ANTIQUE 17th CENTURY BRASS CANDLESTICK LIGHTING CANDLE HOLDER EARLY C. 1690

NICE Late 17th Century Brass Candlestick 300+ Years Old with Twist Shaft Design and Amazing Original Centuries Old Patina! This is a circa 1690 circular base brass candlestick in a great early patina.

One of only three of this style having been in the collection of a period who collected them across Europe for over 40 years. Most Likely Spanish this is a nice example of period metalworking in early lighting and the design referenced in many volumes on the subject (see included reference for an almost identical example). This piece has a rather rarer "barley twist" design to the center shaft. Stands 5 1/2" tall with a circular base measurement of 5 1/4" in diameter. Please consult the images for signs of original construction and condition. Some general wear and signs of age, some denting around the up turn of the base (said area formed in to prevent wax from spilling onto a surface). As you can see the piece is original in its centuries old green patina that covers the base and part of the stem. If one chose too the piece could be shined up to a brighter presentation but as it is its a wonderful testimate to a piece that was found many many years ago in its original state and remains so to this day.
