VTG Ivar Alenius-Bjork "Lilljan" Lily Brass Candle Holders Ystad-Metall Sweden. With the Fair's motto was "The World of Tomorrow" this piece withstood the test of time, and blends in with Scandinavian Modern and Mid-Century Modern with ease. This design was called "Liljan" or "Lily" with a simple, beautiful form that represents the arched shape of the leaves of a lily. When you add a pale green candle, it creates the effect of a stem.
Its graceful and minimal, decorative and discreet, all at once. The sculptural "Lily", made of polished brass, attracted well-deserved attention due to its design and function, and is a marvelous conversation piece. It has since become recognized as a modern design classic that is featured in many international design magazines to this day. A perfect addition to an elegant table or buffet, or adding a bit modernism to a sideboard.
This pair of candle holders have a beautiful vintage patina with the expected wear of something over 80+ years. We should all look that good when we get to that age! Size: 9 inches across, 4-3/4 inches high, 3-1/8 inch base. Ivar Ålenius Björk (1905 1978) worked as a sculptor and inspired by the 1920's. He is mostly known for his public busts and statutes seen in many Swedish towns.In an agreement with the relatives of Ivar Ålenius-Björk, Skultuna has now started the production of the Lily candlestick again. From the estate of a man with Scandinavian heritage that traveled extensively throughout Europe, North America, the Pacific Islands, and Asia.
