This spectacular silvered and gilt chased repousse brass on wood candlestick of the middle 1700s is most likely Italian or Spanish and measures an impressive 32 tall (35 with pricket; 30 without cut tin add-on) x 9 ¼ at the base with 6 ¾ diameter top. It has well cast baroque scroll feet, roulette-textured ground in some of the fire gilt areas and pronounced wear in the silvering. The underside is wooden with an exceptional blacksmith wrought rams horn nut. United by a central iron rod, there is some looseness in the various elements and minor dents.Overall, it is sturdy and usable with some old wax residue. The scalloped soldered tin top is a removable early to middle 19th c.
